Excellence at Siuslaw High School

March 6, 2025, 5:19 p.m.

In a public comment at The Florence City Council's March 3rd meeting, Assistant Principal for the Siuslaw High School, Anthony Martins,  updated everyone on the good things happening at the school.

"In the rhythms of the Siuslaw High School year, we’re settled into our second semester and already beginning class forecasting for next year. We’re soon welcoming our incoming Freshmen with an 8th-grade parent night.

March 3rd was the first official day of spring sports. Baseball, Softball, Golf, and Track and Field all get their official start today.

We recently recognized Macali Lade, the Oregon State Champion in her wrestling division.

It’s been great working with Hailey Coons, our SRO, or Student Resource Officer. She is skilled and knowledgeable as a police officer and a highly valued community member.

Students at our school can earn blue tickets by being caught doing something good. These fill GO VIKS in big block letters in the mall. Since they just filled them up, we’ll redeem them for some fun activity time before Spring Break.

One hundred eighty-three of our students made the Honor Roll in the first semester—a robust showing—higher than typical. We also recently inducted several students into the National Honor Society, which requires community service and a high GPA.

On March 13th, we will host the CTE Showcase, where Career Technical Education students and instructors from across the region will visit Siuslaw to tour our eight CTE programs. We are the only school our size to have eight programs, and we’re proud to showcase them.

There are so many great things to shout out, he. We’ve got an active D20 group that plays D&D, an esports team, and a choir and band that have had some delightful concerts lately.

Siuslaw High School is a great place to be, and we hope to continue striving for community connection and personal excellence each year."
