Florence City Council appoints Mike Webb to vacant council seat

March 4, 2025, 6 a.m.

The Florence City Council appointed Mike Webb to the vacant council seat Monday night. Councilor Robert Carp was the lone no vote. Out of the 11 candidates to apply, only 3 came up for a vote before Mike Webb was selected. Vanessa Buss was the first to come up for a vote. The motion failed 2 to 2 with Councilor Wantz and Councilor Beaudreau voting no. After that was a vote for Laurie Green. That vote failed 2 to 2 with Councilors Ward and Carp voting no.

Mike Webb works at Oregon Pacific Bank as Vice President, Commercial Relationship Officer. He has been a board member of Western Lane Ambulance District since 2005. He has also a board member on the Florence Urban Renewal Agency since 2008. Webb also is a member of the Florence Kiwanis Club, and the Rotary Club of Florence, and is the Treasure of the Siuslaw Vision.

The City Council committed to send a letter of thanks to the other 10 candidates that did not get the appointment. Mike Webb will serve 2 years on the City Council and his seat will come up for a vote in the November 2026 election. Mike Webb will be sworn in on the 17th of March.
